On July 29th 2026, the City of Hawthorne held a Groundbreaking Ceremony for the start of the Moneta Garden Mobility Improvement Project. The Public Works Department launched this project through a competitive grant, estimated to cost 3.9 million dollars.

The project will cover streets from 139th Street between Prairie to Crenshaw Ave., 135th Street between Prairie to Crenshaw Ave., and Cerise Avenue between 135th and Rosecrans Ave. The scope of the work includes resurfacing streets, rebuilding or constructing new sidewalks, curves, gutters and other concrete work, new traffic signals and any other necessary work. 

The Moneta Garden Mobility Improvement Project is expected to be completed before the end of this year.
