The City of Hawthorne City Council recognized the Hawthorne Police Department for their leadership and integrating their medical services program providing medical treatments into the law enforcement response for over two decades. Since its inception HPD has responded to thousands of medical calls, arriving within minutes and before the fire department arrives, providing life-saving skills. 

At this council meeting, a group HPD officers were recognized for their extraordinary actions to saving lives in 2025, and whom were recognized by different organization state-wide as well. Thank you to all those officers present and not who contribute to the department. 

Hawthorne resident and local boxer Irene Diaz was given a special proclamation for accomplishments as a boxer and winning the National Golden Gloves Championship three times. She has brought great pride and recognition to her family, friends and the community. Diaz has been invited to train with the USA boxing team at the Olympic training center in Colorado Springs. 

The City Council is proud of all her accomplishments, her commitment to excellence and for serving as an inspiration to our youth and the community.
