Fay Johnson - City CouncilFaye Johnson's life exemplifies resilience, perseverance, and a strong commitment to service. Born into a challenging environment in Columbia, South Carolina, she entered the foster care system at the age of six. Despite a tumultuous childhood characterized by instability, Faye demonstrated determination early on by working as a babysitter and house cleaner at the age of 9 years old.

Her life underwent a significant transformation when she enlisted in the Air Force, where she discovered discipline, purpose, and a passion for justice. Overcoming discrimination within the predominantly male military, Faye achieved the rank of Chief Master Sergeant (E9) in just 15 years, serving with distinction in both medical and administrative capacities throughout her 20-year career. While she did not experience combat, her contributions were essential to military operations globally.

After her retirement, Faye continued her dedication to service by working at the Veterans Affairs Central Office in Washington, D.C., and by serving as Chair, of Hawthorne's Veterans Affairs Commission prior to her election as Hawthorne City Councilwoman. Her journey from foster care to a successful career in public service illustrates the opportunities that perseverance can provide.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Faye is a devoted mother to five successful children and a proud grandmother. She has also earned a Bachelor’s degree in Business Management, reflecting her commitment to education and personal growth.

Faye’s story embodies the core values of the American Dream—overcoming adversity, pursuing happiness, and taking control of one’s destiny. She serves as an inspiration to others, encouraging them to confront challenges with courage and determination, and illustrating that success is achievable through hard work and faith. Her goal for the city is to work hand in hand with Hawthorne Police to make crime illegal again. Strong communities depend on robust public safety. She is also dedicated to positioning Hawthorne to seize the unique opportunities present by upcoming major events in our surrounding cities like the Super Bowl in 2026 and the Olympic in 2028. By leveraging events we can invigorate our local economy, enhance community pride, and build lasting legacies for future generations.

I look forward to serving the City of Good Neighbors, Hawthorne.
