Marie Poindexter-Hornback serves as the elected City Treasurer of Hawthorne, California, marking a historic achievement as the first African American woman to assume this office. In her capacity, she is responsible for managing the city's finances and investments, overseeing approximately $50 million in municipal funds. With over thirty years of accounting experience, Marie is currently employed as a Senior Accounting Manager for a private real estate investment firm in Los Angeles. Furthermore, she operates her own income tax preparation business. Her extensive professional background encompasses a variety of roles, including Vice President of Finance at Tiger Federal Credit Union, Director of Finance, Grant Writer, Assistant Controller, and Manager of Accounting. In addition, she dedicated eleven years to the field of education, providing assistance to children with autism within the Los Angeles Unified and Wiseburn Unified School Districts. Marie holds an undergraduate degree in business and accounting from Grambling State University. She is actively involved in community service, offering financial management education to young students and providing free tax assistance to low-income families. In her free time, she enjoys participating in community events and spending quality moments with her family.
