Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) Program

Under the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021, the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) allocated 70,000 Emergency Housing Vouchers to public housing agencies nationwide. EHV awards were announced on June 10, 2021, at which time the City of Hawthorne Housing Authority was awarded 67 vouchers.

The Emergency Housing Voucher (EHV) Program was a temporary federal initiative funded by HUD to assist individuals and families experiencing homelessness, at risk of homelessness, fleeing domestic violence, or facing other housing crises. The program was funded through a one-time congressional appropriation, and HUD has announced that EHV funding is limited and will not support the issuance of new vouchers indefinitely.

As EHV funding is reduced and the program reaches its conclusion, the City remains committed to supporting current EHV participants. It is the City's intention to transition eligible EHV households to the Housing Choice Voucher (HCV) Program as funding and voucher availability permit. The City will continue to provide updates and work closely with affected participants throughout this process.
