John Ramirez Administrative Services Director

Mr. Ramirez has expertise in city planning, contract management, and economic development from almost 20 years of public and private sector experience in Los Angeles and Orange Counties.  In his role he will assist the City Manager in the day-to-day operations of the City and support the executive team in providing direction, strategic vision and the allocation of resources to meet their goals.  In addition to this role, he will oversee the operations of the Planning and Community Development Department, which includes Planning and Code Enforcement.  

 Prior to joining Hawthorne, Mr. Ramirez was Vice President of a municipal consulting firm.  As Vice President, he played a major role in corporate management, including strategic planning, business development, marketing, resource allocation, and other vital company operations. Prior to this work, Mr. Ramirez worked at the Cities of Anaheim, Huntington Beach, Laguna Hills, Bellflower and Santa Ana.  He has a Master’s Degree in Urban and Regional Planning from the University of California, Irvine and is a Member of the American Institute of Certified Planners.  In 2016, he served as the City’s Interim Planning & Community Development Director and he is very happy to be back as an official member of the Hawthorne family.
