Councilman Nilo Michelin is the son of a single mother from Central America. Through hard work and family support, he was able to attend to the US Naval Academy, UCLA, and UCLA Law School. Nilo has a Political Science degree from UCLA and a Law degree from UCLA Law School. As a Hawthorne Prosecutor, he worked with the Hawthorne Police Department to reduce crime and headed the Committee Against Nuisances Overrunning Neighborhood, a joint task force of police, fire fighters, code enforcement officers dedicated to reducing neighborhood blight. Nilo was a Hawthorne School Board Member for 10 years, helping start the Hawthorne Math and Science Academy, an award winning college preparatory high school. Nilo is presently a high school teacher in the Los Angeles Unified School District, where he has helped many students prepare for college. Nilo has been a Hawthorne City Council member since 2011. Nilo has focused on the areas of crime reduction, economic development, and the revitalization of Hawthorne Blvd. Nilo has voted against increasing the budget structural deficit and building new apartments in Hawthorne. Nilo has a proven track record of putting Hawthorne residents before special interests.
