Dr. Paul Jimenez serves as a Counseling Faculty at Santa Monica College. Paul was born in El Salvador and grew up in Santa Ana, California. Dr. Jimenez is a product of the community college system who later transferred to UCLA where he earned a B.A. degree in Chicana/o Studies and History. In addition, he holds an M.A. degree in Counseling from LMU and a doctorate in Educational Leadership from USC.
After holding the positions of counselor and dean at Environmental Charter High School, Professor Jimenez returned to LMU to develop the University’s Transfer Services Department and lead the Institution’s Orientation Program Unit. He has held a counseling/faculty position at Santa Monica College since 2009 and took on a full-time position with SMC in 2017 after serving as a full time professor in LMU’s Graduate Counseling Program. Professor Jimenez is the founder of the nationally recognized Undergraduate Research Scholars Academy (URSA) which supports high-achieving community college students transition to selective universities.
Paul has procured over a million dollars in resources for student support initiatives throughout his career. His research interests include the identity of community college counselors as institutional agents, male college students and masculinity, and social capital in education settings. Professor Jimenez is a children’s book (The Adventures of El Cipote) author and an avid traveler who has visited over 40 countries. Dr. Paul Jimenez lives with his wife Nathalia, son Pablo, and their dog Lucy Lou in Hawthorne, CA.

Increase voter registration and turnout through community engagement.
Make city documentation more accessible.
Provide information on current events in a timely manner.
